Verizons first 4G LTE Mobile hotspot now available

first_imgVerizon released its first 4G mobile hotspot today running on the Verizon Wireless LTE network. This is good news for those of you who have a bunch of devices that you want to get onto a fast 4G LTE network all at the same time.Launched in December, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network is supposedly 10 times faster than Verizon’s 3G networks. The Samsung 4G LTE SCH-LC11 Mobile Hotspot will provide you with that super speed.AdChoices广告This seems like the way to go over a USB modem, like the LG VL600 4G USB Modem that we reviewed earlier this month on Verizon LTE. Still, our tests showed that the USB modem was very fast, but the hotspot is even faster.According to Verizon, customers can expect download speeds of between 5 and 12 Mbps, and upload speeds of  between 2 and 5 Mbps in 4G Mobile Broadband coverage areas. It’s also backward compatible with the Verizon Wireless 3G network. The 4G hotspot will let you share your connection with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices at the same time.It’s available online through Verizon Wireless for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement on a 4G Mobile Broadband plan. You’ll have to wait until March 31 to get it in-store. At full retail, the LC11 will cost you $269.99.Data packages start at $50 monthly for 5GB. There’s also a catch with that $50 mail-in rebate. You’ll get that $50 back in the form of a debit card, and you can use that like cash, but the fact that you can’t put that money back into your account is a little annoying.Inside the device is a MDM9600 chipset and a 4G SIM card.  It’s VPN compatible and has autoconnect. The LC11 has a USB port that it uses to charge the internal battery, and is good for up to 216 minutes of use and nine hours on standby. Wi-Fi support includes 802.11b/g/n.Though Verizon’s LTE network is available, its coverage is still limted.
