Something joyful, so that everybody can enjoy and keep the tradition going,” Matsumoto said.  “It’s something joyful instead of all this sadness going on throughout the year.”In the interest of safety, the UHRA is asking that all visitors remain in their vehicles while checking out the displays and be mindful of social distancing.“We’re just asking everybody to be safe when they come and see the displays,” Matsumoto said. “We’re trying to do everything the same as much as we can, but just be socially distant and be safe when you come and enjoy the light.”Awards will be given out in several categories, Matsumoto said. Instead of a panel of guest judges, the selections will be made this year by the UHRA board.“Just come and enjoy, but be safe,” Matsumoto said.See also:Christmas Tale Demonstrates Hastings Ranch Holiday Spirit HerbeautyWant To Seriously Cut On Sugar? Dell Technologies Set to Drive 5G Transformation

first_imgDon’t blink – yes, you read the headline correctly. But just to clarify, we’re not announcing our intention to compete with industry telecom giants like Ericsson, Samsung and Nokia.Connected everything revolutionOf course, it is an exciting, brand new foundational architecture for the telecom world, but for Dell Technologies, 5G is far more than just a telecom play. We believe it will deliver massive transformational change across all businesses and societies. As a leader in digital transformation, Dell Technologies will help define the underlying infrastructure technology. In other words, we will provide the rocket fuel to power and drive the 5G network revolution, the “connected everything” revolution.Science fiction comes trueWhy is 5G such a pivotal development? As my colleague, Mehdi Sif recently mentioned on this blog, we are anticipating “a new wave of emerging 5G, edge computing, and IoT applications.” 5G will spawn new business models that will see billions of devices consuming and generating data like never before. What used to be imagined in science fiction movies—flying autonomous drones, driverless cars and planes, machine-to-machine interactions, seamless communication around the globe—is quickly becoming our new reality.Smart factories and smart citiesMeanwhile, existing industries will be able to work smarter. For critical applications, manufacturers currently use fixed-line networks to ensure high bandwidth, connection density, low latency and high reliability. In contrast, mobile 5G technology will enable smart, interconnected factories, allowing manufacturers to more quickly and cost effectively exchange huge volumes of data as well as deploy artificial intelligence (AI) and automation solutions to help make the industry more competitive. The same goes for smart cities. As many IoT sensors monitoring conditions like air quality and traffic control are likely to be located in difficult-to-reach, often dangerous places, 5G wireless connectivity will allow for more flexible design and on-the-fly reconfiguration.Network architecture redesignIn turn, all these intelligent applications will generate a slew of new requirements—latency, bandwidth, capacity, coverage, storage, real-time data—which means that the industry will need to completely redesign the entire end-to-end network architecture. The current equipment model for telecom networks will not scale up to 100 times the number of users plus 100 times the volume of data.Data is everythingThis dynamic will force massive transformation across the mobile platform and, as Tom Burns recently outlined on this blog, will require Digital Transformation, IT Transformation, Workforce Transformation, and Security Transformation. We will see new architectural, technical, operational, deployment and support models emerge, all demanding higher speeds and agility at lower cost. Everything will be driven by data and the need to capture, process and react network data in real-time. The result? A massive increase in computing at the Edge, coupled with AI and machine learning.Next gen OEM solutions5G will also be the first end-to-end architecture that is fully software defined, from the radio through the core. As the world’s essential infrastructure company, Dell Technologies has successfully mastered software-defined in the data center. And, as the #1 OEM Solutions provider[1], we are best positioned to deliver the next generation of solutions and support for our telecom partners to extend this concept all the way to the Edge. We’ve got all the necessary assets: off-the-shelf commercial infrastructure, high-touch engineering, expertise with telecom solutions, ability to customize, the right partners, plus our world-class global support and supply chain. In fact, the OEM approach—especially the hybrid model—is particularly suited for network transformation. In this scenario, the end customer can purchase the infrastructure directly from Dell EMC OEM, based on a detailed specification—effectively a bill of materials—provided by the OEM partner. From an end customer perspective, this has all the advantages of direct procurement, but with the expert input and validation of the OEM partner.A journey not a sprintThis transformation will not be an overnight sprint or simple upgrade to 5G; think rather a gradual journey towards complete architectural evolution. Dell EMC OEM is already engaged with leading service providers, network and technology vendors, as well as industry standardization bodies. For example, at Mobile World Congress, we’re announcing a validation lab that will showcase how we can integrate third-party applications to develop end-to-end communication solutions.Time to re-engineer your architecture & partnership modelIn summary, my key message to service providers and equipment manufacturers is that hardware and software re-architecture is now critical; the network has to evolve to address these dramatically changing needs. With all these foundational changes happening, you also need to rethink your partnership and procurement models. We can help! What’s your take on 5G? We’d love to meet you at Mobile World Congress. Come meet the team and discuss the opportunity at Hall 3 Stand 3M11.Read our white paper on the 5G opportunityLearn more about Dell EMC OEM Telecom SolutionsLearn more about next gen solutions from Dell EMC OEMJoin our LinkedIn OEM & IoT Solutions Showcase page Keep in touch. Copley Hospital first hospital in Vermont to reach EHR milestone

first_imgCopley Health Systems recently completed attestation to the federal government that Copley Hospital has met ‘meaningful use’ criteria for the Phase One implementation and use of its electronic health record (EHR) and is eligible for Medicare EHR incentive payments. Copley completed attestation on June 27, 2011; the first hospital in Vermont to do so.  The attestation demonstrates to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that Copley Hospital has met requirements for EHR Medicare incentives under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. ‘Our focus has been to improve the quality of patient care and patient safety in addition to improving the exchange of information among healthcare providers and patients through our EHR,’ said Mel Patashnick, President of Copley Health Systems. ‘Our being at the forefront of implementing this vital technology is indicative of our commitment to providing outstanding patient care.’  Copley is using CPSI as its EHR platform. A number of employees, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other clinical staff, were involved with process preparation, the selection and installation of the appropriate software and training for implementation to meet ‘meaningful use’ guidelines.  Copley has also worked closely with Vermont Information Technology Leaders to build a bi-directional health record interface, enabling transmissions to and from the Vermont Health Information Exchange (VHIE).  Copley’s EHR Phase One implementation was funded in part by a grant from the Lucy D. Nisbet Charitable Fund. Copley Hospital is the non-profit community hospital serving the greater Lamoille Valley area of north-central Vermont. This rural hospital is a vital resource for the wellness and health of the community in addition to being one of the largest employers in the areas. Copley provides 24/7 emergency services, women’s and children’s health services, access to more than 50 specialists including a full-time cardiologist, urologist and a state-of-the-art orthopedics program on its campus in Morrisville, Vermont. Copley provided more than $800,000 in direct charitable care last year and has provided $5.5 million in community benefits for the surrounding area.last_img read more

Hiker presents cheque to Child Heart Fund

first_img 22 Views   no discussions Share LocalNews Hiker presents cheque to Child Heart Fund by: – June 25, 2012 Tweet Sharing is caring!center_img Share Share Shanne Anthony presents a cheque from Jolly’s Pharmacy to Kay Robinson, Treasurer of the Children’s Heart Fund. They are flanked by Jefferson Casey (R) of Jolly’s and Simon Walsh of the DHTA.Every step he made, every breath he took was for the children. Shanne Anthony, an employee of Harris Paints, participated in all three hikes organized by the DHTA during the month of May as part of Tourism Awareness Month and was the first person to register 75,000 steps during the Hike Fest. As a result of this feat, he was able to present a cheque to the Children’s Heart Fund (CHF) on Thursday, June 21st, 2012.The donation was made possible because Jolly’s Pharmacy, leading the way in healthcare, came forward and presented the DHTA with pedometers so that all hikers could keep track of the number of steps made, and they added an incentive. Jolly’s would donate $1 for every 100 steps to a charity selected by the first person to reach 75,000 steps.Choosing the Children’s Heart Fund was easy, said Shanne. He admitted that the word “children” tugged at his heart strings. “The word ‘children’ in the name of the charity just did it for me. My cousin is seven years old and she suffers from seizures because of a problem with the flow of oxygen to her brain and she has to seek medical attention overseas so I thought of her and other children who might be suffering from other ailments.”Receiving the cheque on behalf of CHF was Kay Robinson, the organization’s Treasurer. “We were excited when we heard about the Jolly’s incentive and that a hiker had selected CHF. We are on a drive to raise funds and Shanne must have heard our prayers. We would like to express our sincere thanks to Jolly’s, Shanne and the DHTA for making this contribution possible. One of our goals is to extend our reach to help all children with health-related illnesses so every dollar counts,” said Kay.Jefferson Casey of Jolly’s Pharmacy said Hike Fest was a natural fit for them. “Our major focus for sponsorship is health and a natural element of this is exercise, so we approached the DHTA and presented them with pedometers for all the participants. We also wanted to assist a charitable organization and we are very happy that the Children’s Heart Fund was selected,” said Jefferson.According to Simon Walsh, the DHTA’s PRO, an average of 76 persons participated in each hike with just under 10 persons completing all three hikes and registering their pedometers. “We were very pleased to partner with Jolly’s in order to provide the hikers with pedometers and to be able to facilitate this donation to CHF. We have seen Hike Fest grow over the years and the aim of the DHTA is to take Hike Fest regional. We’ve already had enquires from St. Maarten and the French islands for next year’s event so planning has already begun,” he added.Hike Fest 2012 included a River Hike on May 5th, which stretched from Pond Casse to Castle Bruce, a Cross-country Hike on May 19th starting in Colihaut Heights and ending in Picard and a Beach Hike from Eden by the Sea to Londonderry on May 26th.Press Releaselast_img read more

Lakers’ Dwight Howard wants Kobe Bryant’s help in the dunk contest

first_imgNEW YORK — In the lean years, the NBA has to ask around for participants for its annual All-Star slam dunk contest. This year, Dwight Howard came calling for them. One of the most surprising comeback stories of the season will be a part of All-Star weekend next month after Howard finally acknowledged after two weeks of speculation that he not only will be in the dunk contest, he asked the league to be in it for the first time since 2009.And that’s not the only thing the 34-year-old is willing to ask for. AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREUCLA alum Kenny Clark signs four-year contract extension with Packers“I’m trying to get Kobe,” he said. “So if I can get all the Laker fans to lobby to get Kobe to help me in the dunk contest, that’d be really good. That’d be awesome.”Howard and Bryant were teammates on the 2012-13 Lakers team that was unceremoniously swept out of the first round of the playoffs. The two parted on ill terms when Howard left for the Houston Rockets in free agency. They have mended fences a bit since Howard rejoined the Lakers, with Bryant saying hello to Howard in the two games he’s attended at Staples Center.Even if Howard can’t convince Bryant to lend a hand, just by entering himself, he’s already made history: He’ll be one of the oldest participants ever, rivaling Julius Erving who was 34 when he participated in the 1985 contest. The event is generally considered a young man’s game, favoring high-flying, springy leapers. That’s part of the reason Howard said he is doing it: in celebration of his best health in many years.“I’m very thankful, after playing 16 years in the league and having played in the dunk contest a decade ago, I’ve been able to jump and move and have my health,” he said. “It’s all about having fun and enjoying this moment.” Howard participated in three consecutive dunk contests between 2007 and 2009, winning in 2008 with an infamous dunk while wearing a Superman cape (though he was short of actually touching the rim on his leap). After The Athletic first reported Howard’s involvement earlier this month, Howard refused to confirm it for two weeks, which were Commissioner Adam Silver’s terms for letting him participate. That didn’t stop him from getting excited: Howard said he’s already chosen some concepts for his latest entry.Related Articles Trail Blazers, Grizzlies advance to NBA play-in game; Suns, Spurs see playoff dreams dashed Lakers, Clippers schedules set for first round of NBA playoffs How athletes protesting the national anthem has evolved over 17 years center_img “Now that I’m competing against some way younger guys, I have to find a way to really make the dunk contest fun for the fans and really entertaining,” he said. “So I came up with some pretty good ideas, so things are gonna be a lot of fun.”Bryant’s participation might be a pipe dream. Howard acknowledged that he has not asked him to help yet.“Just gotta get the fans behind me first,” he said. “Setting the table. Need you guys, ‘Hey Kobe, can you get in the dunk contest with Dwight?’ That’d be great.”Others in the Lakers locker room have been supportive: Anthony Davis said he’d be free to help Howard during All-Star weekend, while forward Kyle Kuzma said he thought it played into Howard’s continued story of “redemption” in Los Angeles.Howard declined to be more specific about his dunk contest plans, including whether the Superman cape would return.“I can’t give everything away,” he said with a grin. Philadelphia Flyers’ Joel Farabee suspended for interference against Jets forward Mathieu Perreault

first_img“That’s the most dangerous play in hockey,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice said following the game. The Jets winger was not at practice on Monday and the team announced they were treating him as if he has a concussion despite Perreault feeling “pretty good.””You can pass your tests and still have concussion-like symptoms. We’ll take any of those symptoms and just say ‘we’re running it through the protocol,'” said Maurice. “Just because a guy doesn’t test out with a concussion, doesn’t necessarily change the way you treat him.” Philadelphia Flyers winger Joel Farabee has been suspended three games due to his interference penalty against Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault in the second period Sunday, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced Monday.During the play, Farabee hit Perreault as he was turning up ice, unaware of the oncoming check. “Players not in possession of the puck are never eligible to be checked,” the Department of Player Safety explained. “However, the interference rule provides a brief window where a player who initiates a check while his opponent is in possession of the puck, may finish the hit. This is not such a play.” Farabee was assessed a five-minute major penalty for interference and a game misconduct.Joel Farabee gets a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a late hit on Mathieu Perreault— Brady Trettenero (@BradyTrett) December 15, 2019The Flyers forward has three goals and 11 points in 27 games this season.
