Jadestone submits development plan for Nam Du and U Minh fields offshore Vietnam

first_imgThe Vietnam Government will consider the FDP for approval for the Nam Du and U Minh fields, following receipt of Petrovietnam’s endorsement VR can allow remote access to hard-to-reach facilities Independent oil and gas production company Jadestone Energy has submitted field development plan (FDP), for Nam Du and U Minh gas fields, offshore southwestern Vietnam, to Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam). The Vietnam Government will consider the FDP for approval, following receipt of Petrovietnam’s endorsement for the fields. The government’s decision on FDP is expected later this year.Jadestone is the operator for the gas fields Nam Du and U Minh, located in block 46/07 and block 51, respectively, offshore Southwest Vietnam. The company has a 100% operated working interest in the two gas development blocks. The FDP submission follows finalisation of the bidder selection process for the facilities EPC contract, selection of a floating production storage and offloading vessel provider, implementation of project management plans for the execution phase of the project, and receipt of amended investment licences for both fields’ production sharing contracts.Jadestone said in a statement: “The Company intends to begin a reserves audit process in the coming weeks, which, in addition to details of the final gas sales and purchase agreement (“GSPA”), will establish the 2P reserves the Company will be eligible to record following development sanction and execution of the GSPA.”The Nam Du and U Minh fields were estimated to hold gross contingent gas resources (2C) of 171.3 bcf as of 31 December 2017.Jadestone Energy president and CEO Paul Blakeley said: “This is a major growth project for Jadestone and, with the submission of our field development plan, we now have a clear line of sight toward formal development sanction which is expected to be received later this year.“In the meantime, our negotiations are progressing well toward finalising a gas sales and purchase agreement in accordance with the heads of agreement signed with Petrovietnam earlier this year.“The spirit of cooperation between Jadestone and the Vietnamese Government and regulator is strong, and we are working together to swiftly monetise this domestic resource, with targeted first production in late 2021.“Nam Du and U Minh offer a material volume of gas for both Jadestone and for Vietnam and, once in production, will be used for existing installed power generation and the manufacturing of fertilisers, thereby directly contributing to Vietnam’s ongoing economic growth and development.”Jadestone’s subsidiaries signed agreement for gas sales from two fields in AprilIn April, Jadestone announced two of its wholly-owned subsidiaries signed a heads of agreement (HOA) with Petrovietnam for gas sales from the Nam Du and U Minh fields. The agreement covers all discovered resources from the Nam Du and U Minh fields.last_img read more

UK COVID-19 daily death count could be scrapped: Telegraph

first_imgBritain paused its daily update of the death toll last month and the government ordered a review into how Public Health England reports coronavirus deaths, after academics said the daily figures may include people who died of other causes.Academics in a blog post had warned that the way the government health agency calculated the figures was skewed as patients who tested positive for coronavirus, but are successfully treated, will still be counted as dying from the virus “even if they had a heart attack or were run over by a bus three months later”.England’s death figures vary substantially from day to day due to this reason, the academics had argued. In contrast, the other parts of the United Kingdom do not follow the same approach. There is a cut-off threshold of 28 days in Scotland after a positive test, after which a patient is not automatically considered to have died from the virus.Britain, one of the countries hardest hit by the virus, reported more than 1,000 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, its highest daily increase since June, taking the total number of cases past 310,000.  Topics : The UK’s official COVID-19 daily death count could be scrapped following an investigation into Public Health England’s method of counting the toll, The Telegraph newspaper reported. The conclusions of the investigation, which was ordered by Health Secretary Matt Hancock after it emerged officials were “exaggerating” virus deaths, are expected this week, the newspaper said. One recommendation could be to move to a weekly official death toll instead, a government source told the Telegraph.last_img read more

Chinese carriers get green light for new Beijing airport.

first_imgThe move to Beijing’s new Daxing International Airport is ramping up after China Eastern and China Southern last week received approval to proceed with plans to build bases at the mega-project.Chinas’s National Development and Resource Commission approved a China Southern plan for a 14.8-billion yuan ($US2.15 billion) base for China Southern and a 13.2-billion yuan facility for China Eastern. The airlines will each fund about 30 per cent of the construction costs with the rest coming from domestic bank loans. The first phase of the $US12-billion airport, some 30 miles (46kms) south of Beijing’s city centre, is scheduled for completion in of 2019 and the Chinese say it will be the world’s biggest in terms of surface area. The first phase of the airport will serve 45 million passengers annually on four runways with capacity through two stages rising to 100 million passengers a year using up to seven runways. Both Shanghai’s China Eastern and Guangzhou-based china Southern will relocate to the new airport while Beijing-based Air China will remain at Beijing Capital International Airport. The new airport will be connected by high-speed rail to Beijing as well as to the nearby cities of Hebei and Tianjin. It is expected to take about 30 minutes to get from the airport to central Beijing.Airport developers ADPI and  British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid created a starfish design with six piers they say will be more efficient and economical to operate, improve connectivity and give a better passenger experience.“Given the terminal’s compact design, the distance between the terminal centre and the farthest boarding gate is around 650 yards, less than Asian and European terminals with similar capacity,’’ ADPI says on its website.  “Passengers can easily find their way within the open interior layout of the terminal, gravitating naturally to the grand skylight central area where shops and services are located, and then walking straight ahead to their gate.’’Beijing Capital airport has become increasingly crowded as air traffic in China has exploded with an expanding middle class and increased leisure time. The need to improve aviation infrastructure has seen China plan to the increase the number of civil airports by at least 50 in a five-year economic  plan released late last year.As well as new Beijing airport, it is also looking at clusters of world-class airports in Yangtze River and Pearl River Deltas. It also wants to speed up construction of international aviation hubs in Harbin, Shenzhen, Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi’an, Ürümqi, and other cities.last_img read more

Two plead guilty in labor trafficking scheme at work on Ohio egg farms

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Two individuals have pleaded guilty to their work in a human labor trafficking scheme that brought in Guatemalans to the United States, some as young as 14, to work on Ohio egg farms and live in deplorable conditions.Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta, head of the Civil Rights Division, and U.S. Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach of the Northern District of Ohio, announced a guilty plea entered last week by the leader of the human trafficking ring.Aroldo Castillo-Serrano, 33, of Guatemala, pleaded guilty to a labor trafficking conspiracy, one count of labor trafficking, one count of witness tampering, and a related immigration offense. Co-conspirator Conrado Salgado Soto, 52, of Mexico, took a guilty plea in early August for his participation in the same crime, as well as on an immigration offense, according to the Justice Department.Officials say the individuals had lured Guatemalans, including adults and minors, into the United States on false pretenses, then used threats of physical harm to force their work at egg farms.“These defendants exploited children who were poor, vulnerable and entirely at their mercy,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Gupta. “We will pursue and prosecute such behavior with all of the tools at our disposal.”The guilty pleas at this time are pending approval from a federal court judge and are not final until an approval is granted. An indictment unsealed on July 2 states that the defendants and their associates recruited workers from Guatemala with the false promise of good jobs and a chance to attend school in the U.S. Some recruits were as young as 14 and 15 years old. Workers were then smuggled by the defendants to a trailer park in Marion where they were ordered to live in dilapidated trailers and work physically demanding jobs at Trillium Farms. Hours were long and pay was meager as the defendants threatened workers with physical harm and withheld their paychecks in order to compel them to work.Castillo-Serrano also pleaded guilty to convincing a witness to lie to the FBI about the scheme. Eight minors and two adults were identified in the indictment as victims of the forced labor plot.“The defendants forced adults and children to work and live in deplorable conditions in exchange for false promises,” said Stephen D. Anthony, special agent in charge of the FBI Cleveland Division. “These reprehensible actions are unacceptable and the FBI will continue to work with our partners to bring to justice those that engage in human trafficking.”Trillium Farms has not been charged. A statement released by Trillium company officials said they were misled by the labor contractors. According to their website, Trillium has locations in Croton and Johnstown with additional sites in Larue, Marseilles, and Mt. Victory.“Our laws and a sense of common decency require that people not be treated like commodities,” said U.S. Attorney Dettelbach. “This defendant treated workers as if they were less important than the eggs that they would help produce. Now he is going to learn the hard way that in this nation, there is a big difference.”Charges are still pending against a third co-conspirator, Ana Angelica Pedro Juan, 21, of Guatemala. Pedro Juan is charged with labor trafficking and conspiracy to commit labor trafficking, as well as witness tampering and making false statements to law enforcement. Two other defendants, Conrado Salgado-Borbon and Bartolo Dominguez, have pleaded guilty to immigration offenses in connection with this case.Castillo-Serrano’s sentencing will be scheduled at a later date, and Salgado Soto’s sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 14. The forced labor counts and the witness tampering count each carry a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The charges involving immigration violations and false statements carry statutory maximum sentences of five years in prison. The investigation is ongoing. The case is being handled by the FBI Cleveland Office’s Mansfield Resident Agency, the Department of Homeland Security, the Marion Police Department and the Marion County Sherriff’s Office. The case is being jointly prosecuted by Trial Attorney Dana Mulhauser of the Civil Rights Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney Chelsea Rice of the Northern District of Ohio.last_img read more

5 Things Jay-Z Can Teach You About Running Your Creative Business

first_imgWant to grow your creative business? Check out these 5 tips on how to be a better creative entrepreneur from Jay-Z, a self made millionaire.Whether or not you’re a fan Jay-Z’s music there’s a lot you can learn from his rags-to-riches story that can help you to develop your own creative business. Whether you’ll make his millions and marry Beyonce, well I can’t promise you that. These 5 thoughts are inspired by this excellent article on Quora titled “What’s so great about Jay-Z?” which you would do well to read first, especially if you’re not intimately acquainted with his life history.  It is a great read.Lesson #1. HustleIt doesn’t take a lot of imagination to realize that if you want to be successful at anything, you have to work at it. But there are different ways of working and different ways of thinking. Jay-Z’s early mindset is classic entrepreneur – when the door to the ‘normal way’ was closed to him he found a creative solution that ultimately set him on the path to becoming who he is today. When Jay-Z was an unsigned rapper, he sold his tapes from the trunk of his car while trying to get a record deal. All of the major labels refused to sign him. He finally scored a deal with Payday Records, but after seeing how amateurly they operated, he realized something that became very critical to his success: they didn’t do anything for him that he couldn’t do for himself. You could argue that selling tapes from the back of your car is not particularly creative (re-brand it as a ‘pop-up-shop’ and it will sound a bit more savvy) but creating your own record label is. That’s what Jay-Z decided to do when he created Roc-A-Fella records when he realized everything they were taking a cut for he could do better by himself.Being willing to take risks, potentially fail and work a lot harder are all key to building your own business. Finding creative solutions to the particular problems you are facing, and eschewing the ‘normal way’ things are done is an incredibly important muscle to develop. Asking questions like: What would it look like to break this? What would it look like to do everything ‘perfectly wrong’? What is the culturally accepted way of doing my business? What does it look like to flip that on its head?Do things for yourself and find creative ways of doing things differently.  Don’t just do things because it’s the “normal” or “typical” way.Lesson #2. MasteryJay-Z is the most talented rapper alive. Back in the 1990s he became known as “The Master of All Flows,” a title only bestowed upon an extremely exclusive group of elite rappers. While most rappers only have one  flow style, Jay-Z has mastered every flow in existence.  Fast. Slow. Syncopated. Straightforward. Poetic. Narrative. He can do it all… This is not just natural ability. This is the sign of someone who is a tireless perfectionist when it comes to his craft.I’m a video editor by trade and I wonder what it would look like to become a ‘Master of All Flows’ in my industry?  I guess it would mean not only being able to cut different styles and genres (action, comedy, horror, drama etc) and develop a deep understanding of the characteristics of those genres but also different formats (Episodic TV with ad breaks, recaps and intros, music videos, corporate videos, commercials, features, documentaries, web series etc) and the technical specs, conventions and deliverables that they require. What would it look like for you? What would it look like to grow your skill set?  Commit yourself to working your way towards Mastery.Be determined to always improve.Lesson #3. PreparationUnlike other rappers, who use notebooks, notepads or even Blackberries to pen a song, Jay-Z has every bar and every verse of his songs etched in his brain. When he enters the studio to record a track, he is always overprepared. Because his lyrics are already memorized, he needs very few takes to record an entire track. Anyone who wants to collaborate with Jay-Z must be prepared for the fact that he moves at a very fast pace with incredible attention to detail.Being as prepared as Jay-Z is one of the things in business that often no one pays you for but makes you exponentially more valuable. Being prepared for the client meeting by scoping out the company website for names and faces, for previous work and knowing as much as you possibly can about where they’re heading is all good basic preparation. Being prepared is often neglected because its technically not part of the job you’re getting paid for.  However, every minute you spend on preparing is worth it, because it demonstrates a level of professionalism that means you’ve got your act together and are ahead of the game.Preparation will reap a harvest of professionalism.Lesson #4. Complimentary Business ExpansionI remember a cameraman once telling me that sandbags generate the biggest return for rental companies because they are relatively cheap to buy, are ubiquitous on sets and easy to charge a little bit for. Pound for pound they generate a lot of profit. Buying your own gear and renting it could be a great way to provide a better service and make a bit on the side. In what ways can you expand to offer complimentary services that might help you grow and offer more?Jay-Z turned his early success into much greater success by turning Roc-A-Fella into a brand promoting other rappers, expanding into clothing and also film. He’s also made considerable money investing in clubs, the Brooklyn Nets, Arsenal FC, a casino and working as a ‘brand consultant’ for Budweiser…all the while co-collaborating with a huge number of musical artists. What are the arenas you could expand into that would compliment what you’re already doing? A clothing line might have seemed like an odd choice for a rapper, but so much of the music scene is about style and ultimately that’s what the Jay-Z brand is offering. What is at the core of what you do – ideas, communication, style? How could you translate that core into complimentary business?Lesson #5. Grit DeterminationJay-Z has a famous quote in “Diamonds Are Forever (Remix);” “Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week.” That statement is precisely what makes him  great. He is a high-school dropout, but he is intelligent and driven in ways that cannot be quantified. All of his success comes from his ability to accomplish goals with smarts, effort and persistence, even against the odds. What he says is true. You can’t knock the hustle. There’s a story in another Quora post on Jay-Z that says he once lost all his money (during his drug dealing days) and so grabbed a friend who owed him a favor and spent three days and nights out on the street earning it all back. Now I am definitely not advocating drug dealing, and I would praise Jay-Z’s later philanthropic efforts, but the point of telling this story is that you can’t get away from hard work and determination.I know lots of creatives who have big dreams about achieving great things, and finally ‘making it’. Hard work alone may not get you there, but you’ll definitely put yourself in place for opportunity.  There is no substitute for hard work. What creative entrepreneurs do you look up to?Share your inspiration and thoughts in the comments below!last_img read more

Bielsa expects Leeds to have quiet transfer window

first_imgLeeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has revealed he expects the club to have a quiet transfer window in January. The Argentine gaffer believes the club won’t be bringing in any new faces when the transfer window opens next month. The Whites were very active during the summer transfer window, and the club’s recruitment has led to Leeds sitting pretty in second place in the Sky Bet Championship standings, one point behind league leaders Norwich City.Bielsa’s men will be linked with a number of players over the coming weeks, but the former Athletic Bilbao boss insists he may keep the same squad for the second half of the season.Solskjaer reveals he plans to build his team around Pogba Manuel R. Medina – July 17, 2019 The Manchester United manager wants to end the speculation that the Frenchman is leaving the Red Devils. At a press conference, the former Argentina national team head coach told reporters, as quoted by Sports Mole:“When a new player comes, then he does not have the same advantage as the ones who are present. He has to adapt to the team, the style of play, the city, the club.”“For the second part of the season, when you buy a player it has an impact on the club’s finances because the big players are not easily available. Apart from the situation where the team needs someone, the possibility of having a player is clear. We will not buy anyone.”Bielsa has rotated his squad on a regular this season with 24 players having feature for Leeds in the Championship this season.last_img read more
